The Swedish model: focus on the next step of innovation & creativity

s1

Next time you’ll be thinking that your life would be much more easier without your boss and that your creativity suffers from poorly chosen hierarchies, remember this: you might be right!

Sweden is one of the most socialist countries in the world“, says David Sandstrom. Although he was born in the USA and grew up in Germany, the current CEO from DDB Stockholm moved up to Sweden when he was 16. Since then, he reached the conclusion that “here everyone is treated the same”.

One of the youngest agency heads of all time, David believes now that the success of his agency is due to this kind of organization/ society.

Step by step

Every day I’m trying to inspire people to do things differently. This is why our industry needs crazy much more than ever“, thinks David who’s giving us a few tips in this direction.

  • take care of your hygiene factors
    • get rid of hierarchies
    • what is your work life balance
    • don’t be afraid of failure
  • work with co-labs
    • joining forces with others brands and agencies
    • innovation and creativity appears when 2 ideas collide
  • insist on verticals
    • own the entire process
    • this is how your competencies are used in the best possible way

Meet Happy Goggles

In order to see how David’s advice dive into reality, here are some facts from a DDB Stockholm campaign named Happy Googles, a unique VR viewer made from an ordinary Happy Meal box.

The best part about the Happy Meal used to be in the box, now it is the box“, The Wall Street Journal

With reviews like that, it’s no wonder why the campaign reached 175 million media impressions plus 1,5 million unique visits to happygoggles.se.

This can be a game changer in child education“, Fadi Lahdo, child psychologist

During his ICEEfest presentation, David Sandstrom admits that the question he asks himself everyday is: how can I do something differently?

And the answer, he said, is clear if you pay attention to the society in which you live in: “no innovation ever come from an area that is really homogenous“.
